From my personal experience, the grief of a child is a very sensitive matter and so many are not aware of how to console, or support a child who is experiencing such immense emotions. The loss of a loved one can leave a child with trauma that will affect them for the rest of their lives. It is so important that they receive guidance and a safe place to express themselves. Winston’s Wish is a wonderful charity that offers support for children after the loss of a parent or sibling. They have a multitude of resources available to not only support the children directly but to also aid schools and other groups in how to help those children in their care. I wish I knew about them when I was young, as I was mostly left to struggle by myself.
Winston’s Wish was the UK’s first childhood bereavement charity. We have been supporting bereaved children since 1992 and we continue to lead the way in providing specialist child bereavement support services across the UK. This includes in-depth therapeutic support in individual, group and residential settings, as well as a Freephone National Helpline, training for professionals and specialist publications.
